Spring-time Backcountry trapline checks.

Do you get out into the Ruahine backcountry, hunt?  tramp? enjoy a hikoi? Would you be keen to check trapline while you are out in the Ruahine?

We have a bunch of different traplines across the nor ’eastern Ruahine that need regular trapline checks and service to help suppress mustelids to low levels, so taonga species like whio (blue duck) and kiwi can survive and thrive. These taonga species need our trapping support from trappers keen to do regular trapline checks.

Mauri Oho can offer support you while you get to know the trapline. We will provide maps and trapline information, bait, and a spanner. You’ll need your usual backcountry gear for one day trapline checks, and overnight stay outs. Sometimes there’ll be an overnight trip to stay in one of the backcountry huts. Transport drop offs and picks up can be arranged for some traplines.

Does this sound like something you’re keen to know more about and where to sign up?
